Tarot · Compatibility spread

Where the two of you actually fit

Compatibility is more than "we get along". It has layers — what the two of you each want, where you differ, where you meet, and how you actually resonate on the three planes of feeling, body and mind. This seven-card spread breaks your connection down into exactly those components, so that at the end you do not just have a hunch but a clear picture of where the relationship carries and where it needs work. It works well for new relationships and equally well for long ones where you want to check whether the underlying structure is still right.

What the compatibility spread surfaces

The compatibility spread combines two diagnostic layers. The first four cards show the outside of your connection: what you want, what the other person wants, where the differences sit, and where the similarities live. The last three cards go deeper and check three frequency layers: emotional (how do you meet in feeling?), physical (how is the bodily attraction, the daily proximity, the touch?), and mental (how do your inner worlds match up?). Those three layers decide far more about long-term durability than the obvious topics — a relationship can be perfect on two layers and diverge so strongly on the third that it still does not hold.

When this spread is most valuable

The compatibility spread fits when:

  • you want to place a new relationship before you go deeper in
  • you want to re-examine a long relationship with honest answers
  • you wonder why a connection feels "right" and yet does not work
  • you keep missing each other and want to sort the layers
  • you have a big life decision next to the relationship (moving, child, marriage) and need to weigh it

How to actually read the seven cards

Read the spread in two passes. In the first pass look only at the wants cards (1 and 2): what do both of you want, and how do those wants relate? Very different energies are not automatically a problem — they can also complement. In the second pass go into the layers (5, 6, 7): which layer carries, which needs attention? Read the differences and similarities cards (3, 4) last — they are the mirror that tells you where your friction is productive and where it just exhausts you. Watch the contrast between a card and its position: a Sun on "Mental compatibility" reads very differently from a Sun on "Physical compatibility".

Compatibility spread — frequently asked questions

What do the seven positions mean?
Cards 1 and 2 show what each of you wants. 3 and 4 show differences and similarities. 5, 6 and 7 check the emotional, physical and mental layers — the three planes that decide long-term durability.
Does this spread replace a relationship conversation?
No. It is a mirror for you, not for both of you. Use it as preparation so you go into the conversation clearer — not as a substitute.
What if one layer looks very weak?
A weak layer does not mean "end the relationship". It means "this is your current work". Ask whether you are both willing to look there.
Can I pull this spread for an affair or a situationship?
Yes. For unclear connections this spread is especially valuable, because it shows whether something really wants to become a relationship — or whether it already has its right shape.
