How it works

Your nodes in three steps

  1. Enter your birth date

Just your date of birth — the nodes sit in the same sign worldwide on a given day, so the date is enough.

  2. Compute the axis

We find the lunar node axis with the Swiss Ephemeris — the same basis professional software uses.

  3. Read the meaning

You get your North and South Node by sign, with a clear reading of your growth path.

The basics

What are the lunar nodes?

The lunar nodes aren’t planets but two opposite points: the spots where the Moon’s orbit crosses the Sun’s apparent path (the ecliptic). Eclipses happen exactly at these points. They form an axis through your chart — the North Node on one end, the South Node on the other.

South Node & North Node

The South Node shows what has felt familiar since birth: gifts and patterns you slip into effortlessly because they feel "like home". They’re your comfort zone — and for that reason what you’re here to grow beyond. The North Node sits exactly opposite and shows your direction of growth: qualities that feel unfamiliar but move you forward.

That’s why astrology often calls this the "karmic axis" or speaks of soul themes: not as fate, but as a compass. The North Node is an invitation, not a command — the direction it’s worth growing in this lifetime.

Lunar node questions

How do I calculate my lunar nodes?
Enter your birth date above — we compute where the lunar node axis sat that day and map the North and South Node each to a zodiac sign. Because the nodes move slowly (about 1° in 19 days) and sit the same worldwide, you need neither your birth time nor place.
What’s the difference between the North and South Node?
They’re two opposite points on one axis. The South Node shows what’s felt familiar since birth — gifts and patterns you slip into effortlessly. The North Node sits directly opposite and shows your direction of growth: the qualities that feel unfamiliar but move you forward.
Do I need my birth time for the lunar nodes?
Not for the sign of your nodes — the date is enough. You only need your birth time to know which house holds your nodes, which you unlock with your full birth chart.
What does the North Node mean in astrology?
The North Node (also the "ascending node") is treated as the compass of your growth: it describes where you’re headed and which qualities you’re invited to live more fully this lifetime. It’s an invitation, not a command.
Is the lunar node calculator free?
Yes, completely — no sign-up, no card. If you want to read your nodes by house and aspect, our 30-day guide helps you read your whole chart.
