Your Big Three
Sun, Moon & Rising sign calculator
Your Big Three are the three signs that shape you most: your Sun (your core self), Moon (your inner emotional life) and Rising, or Ascendant (how you land on other people). Enter your date of birth — Sun and Moon appear instantly. Add your birth time and place for your Rising. Free, no sign-up.
Without a birth time you still get your Sun and Moon — the Rising needs your time and birthplace.

What are the Big Three?
When astrology fans talk about the “Big Three”, they mean three signs. Together they say far more about you than your star sign alone:
- Sun sign — your core self; worked out from your date of birth alone.
- Moon sign — your emotional life; also from your date of birth alone.
- Rising sign — how you land on others; needs your exact birth time and place.
Your Rising changes sign roughly every two hours — which is why our calculator asks for the date first and the time second. That way you get two of your three signs straight away, with no birth time at all.
Your Big Three are the way into your full birth chart — every planet, house and aspect. And if you want to learn to read your chart yourself, our online astrology course teaches you astrology in 30 days — 5 minutes a day.
Big Three — frequently asked questions
- What are the Big Three in astrology?
- Your Big Three are your Sun sign, Moon sign and Rising sign (Ascendant). Together they form the backbone of your personality: the Sun shows your core self, the Moon your emotional life and the Rising how you come across to others. Knowing your Big Three tells you far more about yourself, astrologically, than your star sign alone.
- How do I find my Big Three?
- Enter your date of birth above and your Sun and Moon signs appear straight away. For your Rising sign, add your exact birth time and birthplace. We use the Swiss Ephemeris engine — the same basis professional astrology software runs on — and explain each sign in plain language.
- Can I find my Big Three without a birth time?
- Your Sun and Moon, yes — your date of birth is enough. Your Rising, no: it shifts roughly every two hours, so it depends on your exact time and place of birth. Without a time you still get two of your three signs reliably, and you can add the Rising later once you know your time (it is often on your birth certificate).
- Which matters most — Sun, Moon or Rising?
- None matters "most" — they describe different layers. The Sun is your core character, the Moon your inner world, the Rising your outward presence. Many people recognise themselves in their Moon or Rising even more than their Sun sign — which is exactly why it is worth knowing all three.
- What is the difference between the Big Three and a full birth chart?
- The Big Three are the three most defining points — the quick way in. Your full birth chart adds all ten planets, the twelve houses and the aspects on top. If you want to go deeper, build your full chart afterwards — it is built directly on your Big Three.
- Is the calculator really free?
- Yes, completely. No credit card, no sign-up. If you want to learn to read your Big Three and your whole chart yourself, there is our 30-day course — but the calculation here stays free forever.
What Sun, Moon and Rising reveal
Sun sign — your core
Your classic star sign: who you are at your centre, what drives you and where your life energy comes from. Only needs your date of birth.
Moon sign — your feelings
How you feel, what makes you feel safe, how you really tick in private. The Moon changes sign every two and a half days — which is why it often says more about you than your Sun.
Rising sign — your impression
The mask you meet the world with and the first impression you make. It depends on your exact birth time — which is why we ask for it in the second step.
Shareable as a card
Your Big Three as a beautiful card to save or share — the perfect excuse to compare them with your friends.
